As of last night the United States of America has moved into a new phase in it’s history.  To stay in line with internet lingo, I’m going to refer to it as America 3.0 or America version 3 (the Revenge of America sounded too war-monger-like).  I’m referring of course to the fact that last night the country elected it’s first President with a truly diverse background.  Last night Barack Obama - son of a Kansas mother and Kenyan father, brought up in Indonesia and Hawaii, and with an African/Middle Eastern name - was elected to be the nation’s 44th President.

My daughter is too young to understand the significance of this event now.  But one day she will understand this to be the spark of a greater flame of positive change for society as a whole.  The results of the election solidifies the promise of America: work hard enough and you too can achieve greatness - based on merit and not where you come from.

Last night the United States of America had a human-ware upgrade and on January 20th, 2009 the world reboots and starts anew…  

Congratulations to Barack Obama, his family, and to America!

It has been almost 2 years since I’ve written anything with substance. Sure I write things for work everyday and such. But I mean I haven’t written anything non-work-related since around the time of my daughter’s birth - almost 2 years ago.

So, I’ve updated the look-and-feel of this site a bit and even enabled the WordPress tool. With WordPress my hope is that I won’t get distracted with the hand-coding of new essays, and I’ll be free to simply let the words flow out of my head.

Don’t expect too many short bursts of posts filled with utter nonsense - like this one. My ultimate goal is to write an occasional essay. Yes, you read that right: essay. Something with a focus, argument, and conclusion - hopefully. I want to exercise my writing chops in this format. Basically, I want to write essays like Paul Graham.
